The Meridian Community School District, home to about 1,000 students, started a much-needed update of its facilities in 2012. Completed in 2016, the project transformed four aging buildings into two renovated schools, including the Junior/Senior High School in Macon, Illinois, and an elementary school in Blue Mound.
The need for a new facility was stark. Parts of the original rural school dated back to the 1920s, and the high school was still without air conditioning.
Bodine Electric of Decatur’s work was part of an approximately 100,000SF phased renovation/addition of the Junior/Senior High School. There was an approximately 50,000SF addition — consisting of a new auditorium, information commons, science labs and classrooms — and 50,000SF of renovation.
Bodine Electric installed low-voltage lighting controls, lighting, site lighting, distribution, sound reinforcement and fire alarm systems and theatrical lighting.
In addition, Bodine performed design-build services for the district, installing a technology package in both schools consisting of a phone system, structured cabling, wireless access points, access control, sound and paging and audio/visual components.
